Tusker now go to the top of the TPL standings after demolishing KCB

By Fred Maingi
Tusker Premier League defending Champions Tusker FC went to the top of
the League standings following their emphatic 2-0 triumph over hapless
Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) in a mid-week tie staged at the Nairobi
City Stadium.
The win however came with a  heavy prize after  speedy left winger
Patrick Kagogo was send off for his second bookable offence in the
49th minute. The second offence was a clumsy challenge on KCB defender
Bethwel Warambo that saw referee Amos Ichingwa  send him off.
However, Coach Robert Matano pulled a fast one after Kagogo’s
dismissal, making a complete overhaul on the striking department
bringing in Obadiah Ndege, Ken Wendo and Fred Ajwang for the misfiring
Joseph Emeka, Dennis Mukaisi and Joshua Oyoo.
Mukaisi and Emeka who were the twin string options in the first half
were completely off the mark and wasted several chances for the
Brewers.
After barren first half, Tusker took the lead after 56 minutes after
second half substitute Obadiah Ndege beat KCB custodian Caleb Adola
with a tricky shot from a defensive lapse.
KCB keeper Kaleb Adola handed the Brewers their second goal of the
match with a howler from a Jockins Atudo freekick. Adola simply let
Atudo’s freekick slip under his arms as he seemed to have collected it
well.
KCB will live  to blame themselves as they started the match well
clearly outplaying the defending champions save for their defense
which did well. Edwin Mwaura had a decent chance in the 4th minute
with his shot from the right being saved for a fruitless corner.
The Bankers were forced into an early sub with Clifford Alwanga
limping off injured in the 20th minute and Ezekiel Odera getting in to
replace him. On the half hour mark, Edwin Mwaura who was dazzling on
the wings had his shot saved for a corner after getting a lay off from
Ezekiel Odera who picked the ball inside the box after some good work
from Paul Mungai and Peter Wainaina.
The Bankers seemed to slip under immediately after the Ndege goal and
they were lost with Tusker commanding play. Matano employed a one man
striking strategy with three players in midfield while maintaining
four at the back as they sought to diminish their one man
disadvantage.
Coach James Omondi introduced Jacob Keli and Dan Makori in his bid to
spur the attack but none of this bore fruits as the brewers remained
firm.
The Brewers now equal AFC Leopards on points but have a better goal
difference(3) and will be on top of the league for the next six days
unless AFC Leopards beat Gor Mahia on Sunday.
Meanwhile Football Kenya Federation(FKL) has raised a red flag on football clubs
that have the tendency of traveling outside  the country for friendly
matches without first clearing with the Federation.
The federation took issue with Tusker Premier League(TPL) teams led
by  Sofapaka,Sony Sugar,Mathare United and Bandari who travelled to
Tanzania recently without involving the federation.
The Federation warned of serious disciplinary action to clubs
intending to do so.The Federation held its National Executive
committee(NEC) meeting on Monday .
The Federation secretary General Omondi Aduda said the action by
the said clubs to do things without involving them is a clear
violation of the rules and regulations.
“The Federation, he added, wishes to inform all clubs and referees
that they must seek clearance before travelling outside the country
for any football related activity.”
The committee is scheduled to issue the sanctions taken against these
clubs in due course. Sunda
