Nyamweya congratulates new Sports Minister Nawmamba

 Sam Nyamweya
By Fred Maingi

Football Kenya Federation Chairman Sam Nyamweya has sent his
congratulations to Hon Ababu Namwamba following his appointment as the
new Minister for Youth and  Sports.
Football  Kenya Federation(FKF) Chairman Sam Nyamweya said  his
federation will work together  with the new  Minister and support him
to make his work easier.
“As a federation we welcome him to the sports ministry and we are
confident that he will inject fresh ideas in this important docket.I
also salute the outgoing Hon Minister Dr Paul Otwoma who will go down
in history as the only sports minister who successfully brought
harmony to the Kenya Football Family through a democratic electoral
process.”
The Federation wished Otuoma great success in his new role as the
Minister of Local Government .
Kenyan Premier League [KPL] Chief Executive Officer, Jack Oguda has
also congratulated Otuoma  for the great  service he dedicated to
Sports.
He said “Dr Otuoma was a great asset in sport and in particular to
Kenyan football. We are all proud and thankful about his performance,”
said Kenyan Premier League [KPL] Chief Executive Officer, Jack Oguda,
immediately after the minister’s new appointment. “We in football are
even happier at his move to a new docket. While in the Sport’s
Ministry, Dr Otuoma noticed -- and empathised with us -- that
football’s biggest challenges include lack of suitable infrastructure,
namely, stadiums and playing fields.
“Where these facilities exist, local government arms have simply
refused to open them up to the masses and in particular to the youth
to utilise them without too much hindrance.
“Dr Otuoma is the kind of man who can change this at the Ministry of
Local Government. We are confident he will push for reforms, so that
the numerous facilities round the country can be upgraded using local
government funds and be easily availed to the people to use them.
“In fact he should cause a complete change of administration to these
facilities so that they are run by committees heavily relying on
communities with the government arms exercising only supervisory and
revenue collection roles.
“Dr Otuoma was most instrumental in the pushing to Parliament, a
Sports Bill, in which many reforms in sport are envisaged.” The KPL
CEO said.
Oguda said KPL would be greatly indebted to Dr Otuoma.
“He was supportive of the KPL and our sponsors right from the start.
When we ran the Under-13 and Under-17 soccer tournaments on behalf of
our sponsors, Orange, the Minister and his staff backed us to the
full.
“To our league partners, broadcast rights holders, SuperSport, he gave
full, support, encouragement and advise. Dr Otuoma did a sterling job
for soccer during his tenure.”
Oguda said football in the country were highly optimistic of similar
support from the incoming minister, Ababu Namwamba.
“He is young and will almost certainly continue the enthusiasm and
innovation Dr Otuoma injected into the Ministry in the recent past.
More praise for Dr Otuoma was expressed by the chairman of Kenya Rugby
Union, Mwangi Muthee, who said: “What a posting for Dr Otuoma! Other
than in the Youth and Sport ministry, that’s precisely where sports
people would like him to be.
