Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has
endorsed Uganda to host this years
regional Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup that is slated to kick off from
November 27 to December 12.
The latest developments that has been received with jubilations
from football stakeholders now puts to rest the issue that threatened
to bring bad blood between Kenya and Uganda.
In a press statement, FKF secretary General Omondi Aduda said in the
spirit of true sportsmanship and in view of a special request from
Federation of Uganda Football Association (fufa) President Lawrence
Mulindwa ,and given that Uganda had no issues against Kenya, they have
accepted to allow the latter to host this year’s tournament.
FKF have indicated they will not pursue nor challenge the current
position.However, the federation has insisted they will prepare to
host the 2013 Cecafa Challenge Cup in Kenya.
FKF has expressed reservation that the issue of Kenya’s bid for
the Challenge Cup was not tabled before the Cecafa Ex-co members
meeting held in Dar es Salaam on Thursday.
“ We as a federation, Aduda added, on behalf of the football family
of Kenya state categorically that Cecafa has treated Kenya, a senior
founding member very badly and we hope that such absurd treatment
should never, ever be meted to any other Cecafa member in the future”
Few weeks ago, the tournament organizers announced that Uganda
will benefit from a $400,000 from East African Breweries Limited
(EABL).
While confirming the event will be held in Uganda, Cecafa Secretary
General Nicholas Musonye disclosed that the prize money remains the
same with the winner pocketing $30,000 for the winners, $20,000 for
the runners up and $10,000 for the third placed team.
Musonye further avered that United Against Malaria (UAM) have agreed
to support the tournament.
“We are happy UAM has agreed to partner with us not only for the
tournament but also to continue their fight against Malaria in the
region,” said Musonye.
UAM got a boost this year when they were given the recognition and
the green light by CAF to operate in all their member federation.
UAM has been partners with Cecafa since its formation in 2009 and will
join main sponsors – East African Breweries – for this year’s Senior
Challenge Cup
