Chandaria Foundation to fund Rudisha running track

The Chandaria Foundation  will fund the construction of a running track
for the 800m world record holder and Olympic champion David Rudisha at
a cost of Sh10 million.
The track to be known as Chandaria-Rudisha running track will be
constructed in his home area of Kilgoris.

Chandaria said the initiative was mooted by the Chandaria Foundation
Trustee Aruna Chandaria in appreciating the world champion who has
brought glory to the country.
Chandaria said the foundation will release the funds for the
construction works once a title deed for the land allocated for the
project has been processed.
The chairman said the main objective of building the track is to
nurture sprinters from an early age with Rudisha inspiring upcoming
youngsters intending to take up athletics.
The National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) president Hezekiah
Kipchoge Keino will be the facility’s chairman, Rudisha a trustee
together with members from the Chandaria Foundation.
Chandaria made the revelations at Pride Inn Hotel, where Mabati
Rolling Mills and Safal Group of Companies honoured medalists from the
just concluded Olympic and Paralympic Games in London, Britain.
The medalists were given vouchers for iron roofing sheets. Gold
medalists were feted with vouchers worth Sh250,000, silver (Sh150,000)
and Sh100,000 for bronze medalists with an additional Sh10,000 for
breaking the world record.
A one-off special discount gift voucher was given to all members of
the contingent.
Sports and Youth minister Dr Paul Otuoma said in its contribution, the
government will allocate land for the project after Rudisha made the
request at his homecoming  last year.
“We have already talked to the local authority in Kilgoris and have
accepted to provide land. The process of acquiring the allotment
letter or title deed is being initiated and hopefully soon it will be
acquired,” he said.
Otuoma called for collaboration between the government and
stakeholders in helping identify, develop and nurture other untapped
sports talent especially in short distance and field events so that
the country can win more medals during international champio
