Kenya`s Deputy PM Mudavadi Condemns Mombasa skirmishes

 By Joel Mwale
Musalia Mudavadi
One of Kenya`s Deputy Prime Ministers in the coalition Government and a Presidential candidate on the United Democratic Forum (UDF) party Mr.Musalia Mudavadi has condemned violence that rocked the tourist Coastal City of Mombasa early this week after the shooting of controversial Islamic Preacher Sheikh Aboud Rogo was killed.
Sheilk Rogo`s killing by unknown people who sprayed his vehicle with bullets killing him instantly and injuring his wife
Aboud Rogo:Kill
Khaniya Said Sagaar.
Following Rogo`s killing at least two  people have been killed among them a Police Officer, several people injured and shops looted. The Kenyan Government is worried that the chaos may affect its lucrative Tourism industry which rakes in Billions of money in revenue.
Security has  already been beefed up at the second biggest City after the capital,Nairobi for President Mwai Kibaki who is scheduled to travel there today,Wednesday Augsut 29 to officially receive the country`s new Jasiri naval ship and open the Mombasa Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) Show.

Below is the full statement of Mr.Mudavdi
It is quite unfortunate that whilst HE The President was officiating the National Peace Conference (at the Bomas of Kenya yesterday) violent acts of thuggery & hooliganism was taking place in our coastal town of Mombasa.
I appeal to Kenyans
to exercise restraint and  avoid retaliatory acts of violence when faced with adversity as this shall only exacerbates situations that could be better handled through the rule of law.
While I condole with the family of Sheikh Aboud Rogo, I condemn the re-emergence of the culture of summary executions perpetuated by rogue elements in society. We should not condone the shooting or killing of any Kenyan. At the same time people must exercise civility & restraint from violence when responding to grievances.
Attacks on churches in Mombasa are ill-advised. The Kenyan religious have existed harmoniously & we should not be led into a religious conflict. We are a marked country for practicing religious tolerance & we should therefore not walk into the trap of provoking a religious conflict for then enemies of the state will celebrate (& take advantage) if such incidences escalated into religious conflict.
I call on the intelligence agencies to dig deep into the matters related to ethnic blood letting in Tana River, Wajir & Mandera counties to re-assure Kenyans that the re-emerging culture of intolerance & violence is not being instigated to sabotage democratic elections.
All in all I wish you a good day.
