Cease hostilities and obseve Peace:Kenya`s VP asks TanaRiver residents

Kenyan Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has called for immediate observance of
peace and cessation of hostilities following last night’s clashes
between farmers and pastoralists in Tana River County where 48 people
were killed.

Mr. Musyoka said the continued fighting over resources between the two
groups was threatening, peace and security and retarding area
development.

“This continued animosity should stop immediately and leaders from the
two communities come up with mechanisms of solving their differences
without resorting to clashes” Mr. Musyoka added.

During the clashes at Rekete village, Tarasaa location 48 people among
them 31 women, 11 children and six men were killed.


Meanwhile the Coast Regional Police boss Mr.Aggrey Adoli has on the morning of Thursday,August 23 confirmed that the number of those killed has risen to more than 50 people but said more  Police officers will be deployed in the area to contain the situation.


Police Commissioner Mr.Mathew Iteere visited the area on Wednesday and is scheduled to address the press over the matter today.
